it's the "I-can't-believe-my-baby-is-one" post!

One year ago today we welcomed our precious baby boy into the world.  We gave him the name Micah: a gift from God.  (You can read his birth story here... I guess I never finished writing part three! oops.)

It has been such a joy (and challenge!) to be his mother. Already he is so full of spunk and personality!  These past few weeks Stewart and I have really started to notice specific character traits in him, and I wonder if these will remain as he grows, or if they are just a part of who he is in this stage of life.

We've noticed that Micah is organized and likes things to be tidy!  He puts his train tracks all together in one place, them will one-by-one move them all to another place.  He often helps me pick up his toys and put them one at a time into his toy basket.  Just this morning, as he was unwrapping his birthday present from us, he would pull of a piece of wrapping paper and set it aside, before ripping more.  Everything in it's place!

We've noticed that Micah loves physical touch.  He certainly doesn't sit still long to cuddle, but he still loves to be held.  He still loves to play with my hair while he nurses, and he gives lots of kisses.  He loves it if you rub his back or pat his bottom.  He just loves to be touched!

We've noticed that Micah is increasingly curious!  He loves to explore his surroundings.  Recently he has begun pointing at everything and asking "What's that?", although it sounds more like "ah dah?".

Micah also frequently demonstrates his strong will!  Already in his first year of life, disciplining him has been quite a challenge!  (Makes me a little worried for the next two!)  However, we realized recently that he is beginning to catch on to a few of the lessons we've been teaching him, such as "don't throw your food on the floor", "don't stash your food beside you in your highchair for later" (seriously!), and "you can only play in the tupperware cupboard in the kitchen, not the others".  Of course there are many, many more that we are still working on, but it is wonderful to see some improvement in his behaviour.

It is so exciting watching our little boy grow and develop.  Just this week he has really started walking!  He hasn't yet given up crawling, but he can now walk several feet at a time when he is determined, and not in too much of a hurry.  Of course, crawling is still the fastest way to get anywhere.  That, or hitching a ride with Momma or Daddy!

I am so proud to be Momma to such an amazing little boy.
