daylight savings trouble

Good morning!!

We need some help from all you Moms out there!

It's day three of daylight savings and Micah is still waking up at 5am!!  There is no daylight savings in West Africa where we were (plenty of daylight year-round!), so this took us rather by surprise.

Halle is doing just fine, sleeping absolutely fabulously, but Micah needs some help adjusting, and we're not sure how to go about it.  All we know is that the whole 5am thing just isn't working for us!

The night before the change we kept Micah up an hour later than normal, hoping he'd sleep in at least a tiny bit.  It didn't work and he was up at 5am.  Since then we've been putting him down at his normal bedtime (on the new time, of course) and he's still getting up at 5am, thus getting an hour less sleep each night.  And he's been so grumpy and disobedient!!

Any tips on helping your children adjust?

  1. i put my kids to bed an hour later for the first couple days and slowly work back to what would be their normal bedtime

  2. Hey CK - we just pretty much went cold turkey. changed all of his routines to the new time. the first two days were rough (4:30 am wakeup - fun! and then 5am) but then yesterday was 6am and today was 8 am. so all i can suggest is to just ride it out for a few days and his little body will adjust.

  3. We pretty much have a week of misery each year at this time while we get adjusted. I haven't come up with a way other than trying to be patient while their little bodies slowly adjust. It's hard and no fun, and sometimes nap needs to happen a little earlier, we do a lot more reading, cuddling and mommy playing for a few days but then they are back to normal. Mornings tend to be hard because they wake up feeling really hungry so I try to have breakfast for them quickly and an extra measure of grace for the grumpies! Hope if gets better for you soon.
